Description: Green Winter is vol. 2
of a trilogy that includes "Black Hole"(2005) "Green Winter"(2006)
and "White Mountain"(2006). About 95% of the songs for this
trio of recordings were recorded prior to the release of "Black Hole".
The "Black Hole" record contained what some people considered
to be uncharacteristically dark songs from those they had been used to
from the band Love Tractor. As Volumes 2 and 3 arrive later this year,
the reason for this will hopefully become clearer. "Green Winter"
marks a period of growth after the difficult beginning that was "Black
Hole".
Musically Green Winter is very different
from Black Hole. Gone are the harsh tones needed for "Black Hole".
On first listen "Green Winter" has a much warmer sound. The
song "Wrong Turn" is reminiscent of the "Allman Brothers"
and contains some impressive guitar and organ solos. "Inventor of
Worlds" sounds like "Piper at the Gates of Dawn" era Pink
Floyd and "Turquoise and Yellow" harkens back to the Love Tractor
power pop of the late 80's. There are also elements of Funk, Reggae and
T.Rex inspired groove, all brought together in LT's original brand of
Psychedelia. The band even does a cover version of the Roxy Music song
3 and 9 from the "Country Life" record.
On "White Mountain" Love Tractor
comes into the light with a number of transcendent songs. "Field
of Battle", "Picasso and Napoleon", "That's what the
Moon told the Sun" and "White Mountain" all contain impressive
playing in the context of unique songwriting. Why would Love Tractor want
to leave their homes in Georgia and travel to the White Mountain? Because
it stood there, beckoning like a thing that beckons from
a distant horizon.
